About Midi
Pyrenees

Located in the South Western tip of France and bordering Spain, the Midi-Pyrenees region has a lot to offer.

Here you can enjoy traffic free driving, biking or horse riding in one of the most scenic parts of France.

The region is a web of rivers and canals offering miles of uninterrupted waterways. The most famous canal is the Canal du Midi, which links the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea.

Built in the 17th Century, this astonishing feat of engineering is now an official World Heritage Site.

The region has always been familiar to pilgrims since the middle ages as they travelled the long distance footpath, Chemin de St. Jaques de Compostelle, on their journey to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Just like many regions in France, Midi-Pyrenees has an excellent reputation for good food and wine.

In particular, the area is best known for its Roquefort cheese, red wine and the fiery Armagnac brandy. In this area even the simplest restaurant will offer an excellent menu.

The capital of the region is Toulouse home to France's aircraft industry and is where the Airbus is manufactured.

The city has many important landmarks including, The Henri de Toulouse Lautrec Museum and the Basilica of St Serinin.

Toulouse is often referred to as the 'Ville Rose' because many of the building are constructed using a soft pink brick.

The region is peppered with many beautiful villages dating back centuries the most famous being Auch, Lavardens, Fources, Montreal and Moissac.
