Living Room - Choosing a  carpet

Back to index page

Before choosing the flooring

Choosing a flooring is an important step in deciding on a decorating scheme. Before you buy, think how the room will be used and what kind of wear it will have.

What wear will the flooring get
For instance, kitchens and bathrooms are hard wear areas and should have tough, practical flooring, while living spaces and bedrooms benefit from the warmth of rugs or carpets.

Costs & quality of carpet
With carpet, location is all important. If you can, purchase better quality carpets for heavy wear areas such as living rooms, hallways and stairs. Bedrooms, bathrooms and low wear areas can be fitted with lighter weight carpets - at lower cost. Remember to include the cost of underlay in your budget - a must for ensuring the fit, feel and longevity of your carpet.
When you are buying a carpet from a reputable company they will be able to advise on the 'end use location' - indeed this information should be prominently displayed
